Kulekhani Dam which is also famously known as “Indra Sarovar” is a beautiful and panoramic landscape situated in Makwanpur district. The activities that can be done once you’re at the Indra Sarovar are fishing, hiking, trekking, and boating. It is a huge man-made dam that was built by people in 1977 A.D. Kulekhani can is the nearest quick escape from the hustle-bustle of the Kathmandu Valley. And can be reached from Kathmandu in few ways but two of the ways are usually used. First, by taking a vehicle through the Dakshinkali – Hetauda highway and the second one is by hiking about 19-20 km from Naubise.

Markhu is a small town which is situated at the northwestern shores of Indra Sarovar and inhabited by the various groups of Newar, Tamang, Magar, Bahun communities all living together in peace It normally takes about 30 mins to drive from Kulekhani Dam to the Markhu Village and is about 7 km from the Kulekhani Dam. Markhu is very famous on this loop trip as it is the first proper settlement that offers proper hotels and lodges after the Kulekhani Dam itself.
