Trip Introduction

Upper Dolpo to Mustang Trek tr is one of the world's highest inhabited areas. It is still a stronghold of the ancient Bon-Po religion, far from the hustle and bustle of modernization. This religion predated the arrival of Buddhism on the Tibetan plateau.

Tibetan culture has a significant influence on Dolpo. Aside from civilization, it is home to diverse fauna not seen in the lower Himalayas. Yet, it is cut off from the rest of Nepal due to snowfall all year. The mystical Lower Dolpo trail passes via the breathtaking Phoksundo Lake and some of Nepal's highest-altitude settlements. The Upper Mustang trail also provides a peek into the ancient banned Buddhist realm.

The 22-day trek along the tough Himalayan trail crosses five high passes, including Baga La, Numa La, Jhyarkoi La, Mo La, and Ghami La Pass, which connects Dolpo to the Mustang province. The path takes to medieval settlements, towering western peaks, and Shey Phoksundo National Park's trans-Himalayan ecosystem.
